Each has plenty of outdoor experience; their knowledge of the tour destination and its weather will ensure a safe trip. In addition, they are all trained in first aid. The guides enjoy meeting and getting to know new people and have the skills to make everybody feel part of the group.

Sun Burn

Sun burn is a real possibility in Australia due to our beautiful clear sky's and sunny days, it is still possible to burn even on overcast days.

It is advisable to always use sunscreen, especially if you have just arrived in the country and are unfamiliar with our conditions.

Luggage

Please limit your luggage to around 15kg per person.

The ideal luggage configuration is a small / medium soft bag with your change of clothes, toiletries etc, which will be accessible at night, and a small day back pack, containing your towel, bathers, camera etc, which is accessible during the day, and which you can take on hikes etc.

Luggage on tour is stored in a trailer, the trailer will normally be locked whenever you go on a hike or leave the vehicle, however no responsibility for security of your luggage is accepted and we highly recommend travel insurance.

Vehicles & Driving

9 Day Kimberley Tour

You will travel in a 9 seat 4WD vehicle towing a trailer with camp equipment and your luggage. All vehicles have a stereo with a variety of music and are air conditioned. Your guide will normally also carry a range of natural history reference books.

Accommodation

Campiong in a swag

Camping in a swag

While in National Parks, you will camp at minimal facility campgrounds, they are normally equipped with a basic toilet but not showers. At other times you will bush camp in isolated wilderness areas where there are no facilities other than those carried in the vehicle.

You will be provided with a swag and a tent. A swag is a type of bed roll which is designed to go on the ground under the stars. It contains a matrass, your bedding (sheets, doona & pillow) and is contained within a large canvas bag. While in the swag your body is covered and your head is exposed. Swags are a fantastic way to camp in Australia and are quite safe, there is nothing like falling asleep while looking at the stars.

If you like you can put your swag inside a tent for protection.

You will always have a campfire at night.

Frequently asked Questions

Do we all get involved with camp duties? Everyone is fully involved with the running of the safari, from collecting firewood, to setting up camp and cooking meals. You are expected to do your share of work. If you are not a great cook, don't worry - your guide and other people in the group will help you.

Does it matter if I am travelling alone? Most of the people on the tours are travelling alone. The tours are strong on group activities and participation including playing outdoor games, going for swims, helping one another during hikes, and overcoming obstacles and challenges. We encourage you to participate in activities, but if it's not your thing that is also OK. We allow time for people to be by themselves on tour if they need it.

Can I do more than one safari? Yes. More and more people are doing connecting tours covering the whole Travelwild network. We really are the hassle-free way to experience Australia's, best adventure destinations.

What do I do with my valuables (passport, airline tickets, money, etc) while we are hiking? Keep them with you in your hiking pack. Although valuable items can be locked in the vehicle or trailer when you go hiking, this is not 100% secure.

Can I be picked up at my hostel or accommodation? Yes, you can be picked up from all hostels and hotels in Broome and Darwin, if you are staying somewhere else, it is normally possible to arrange a special pick up, please ask prior to booking.

I'm a vegetarian - is that a problem? Not at all. All the guides are familiar with vegetarian cooking. Please notify us of your dietary needs when booking so that you can be adequately catered for.

Will I be fit enough? This tour is one of the more active Kimberley Tours we offer. If you are concerned about your fitness get out there and do day hikes in the weeks prior to your safari departure, as a guide, you need to be able to walk 5km per day over rough terrain, often in the heat, if you can do this you will be fit enough.

Who is in my group? A small group with a range of ages, nationalities and work backgrounds. About seventy percent of people are between 20 and 40, though this can vary. On average, half are women and half are men. Everyone shares an enthusiasm for outdoor adventure and an appreciation of nature.

How far in advance do I need to book? The sooner the better. We get many advance bookings so it is important to book early to avoid disappointment.

Additional Costs? There are no additional costs on this tour except for the optional Helicopter Flight noted above.
